| Canadian Submariners in the early 70's had their own version of the quest for hockey's most prestigious award " The Stanley Cup" While the actual playoffs were going on back home this was played every spring during the annual Maple Spring exercise in the Caribbean as a complete series with all NHL teams represented and took the better part of 2 months to complete. | |
| A card game called hockey was adapted for our purposes with a team of two people and all stats such as goals, assists, shutouts, etc. were kept with awards on completion of the playoffs and championship series. Sometimes an over abundance of enthusiasm would be displayed when banging the scoring card down on the table hence the "protective" padding you will see on some of the players hands. | |
| This excellent display of the prowess of athletes on the fine edge of physical perfection went a long way in passing the days at sea with a lot of laughs and good natured "shit chucking" |
